The fourth industrial revolution is here! Skilled professionals who know how to interface hardware, software, and the cloud are in high demand. CPTD is an innovative programming diploma that covers a range of skills with a unique focus on the Internet of Things (IoT).
With the help of powerful tools in IoT programming, data analytics, and artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things is a network of physical objects – or "things" – embedded with sensors, software, and other technologies that connect and exchange data over the internet. These "things" include household items such as smart thermostats and fitness trackers, as well as complex industrial machinery.
From Arduino projects to industrial IoT, this program offers a hands-on learning journey in programming and the cutting-edge field of the Internet of Things.
This program is delivered in-person on weekends at our Toronto campus; during the week, classes will be delivered online in synchronous and asynchronous formats.

- Graduates of this program may continue their studies at Laurentian University and receive a Bachelor of Computer Science (B.COSC) in as little as 2 years. Refer to Laurentian’s Transfer Agreements for further information.

Admission requirements
For graduates of the new curriculum (OSS): Ontario Secondary School Diploma (30 credits) or equivalent or mature student status including:
- Any grade 12 English (C) or (U)
- Any grade 12 Mathematics (C) or (U)
Note: A minimum of 60% is required in the Mathematics prerequisite course.

Success in this program requires that you come equipped with some program-specific technology requirements.
Minimum technology requirements
- Regular access to a computer with a reliable Internet connection
- Webcam and headset
- Personal computer
- Operating system: Windows 10 Education or Professional (will be provided)
- Processor: 64-bit current generation Intel i5 or i7 (preferred) or AMD equivalent
- RAM: 8 GB (16 GB preferred)
- Storage: 100 GB free with min 10 GB for software installs
- Software
- Open Source software (as required), Microsoft Software (distributed through AzureForEducation), MS Office, MS Project
- Various Arduinos and Raspberry Pi with various sensors and motors will be required for some courses
Required software will be provided by Cambrian College. Instruction on how to obtain software will be provided to you. Some software that you may access as part of your program may not be compatible with every device. System requirements for assistive technology
To access the widest range of assistive technology (AT), a Windows-based computer is recommended.
- Recommended OS: Windows 10 or newer
- Recommended CPU: Intel or AMD multicore processor
- Recommended RAM: 8 GB
- Recommended storage for assistive technology: 8 GB of available hard drive of solid state drive space (please note this is not the total drive size and refers specifically to available space needed for assistive technology)
- Recommended audio: Speakers or headphones for text-to-speech and microphone for speech input.
While Apple computers can provide many AT options, some specialized software may not be available/compatible with this platform. Please consult with the Glenn Crombie Centre for further details.
