Program delivery

Dynamic and interactive programs delivered to suit your preferred learning style

Whether you choose to study online or on campus, your professors will be with you every step of the way, and you’ll have lots of opportunities to interact with your classmates from across Canada and around the world.

Hands-on and practical learning experiences

In programs where there are placement/co-op/internship requirements, students must be prepared to complete these requirements in person. Cambrian has a variety of placement partners located locally, provincially, and nationally. In some programs, given the limited number of local placement opportunities, students may have to complete their placement requirements with a placement partner in another city or another province.

Please note that all related clinical placement expenses such as travel, parking, and accommodation are the responsibility of the student. To learn more, please contact the program coordinator (view programs and find contact information).

Learning formats

Here are the learning formats that we offer for our programs:

On-campus

Definition

The program is delivered in person through scheduled synchronous teaching.

What this means

Your courses run on a specific date and time, and your professor engages with you and your classmates on campus, in person, and in real-time.

Online

Definition

The program is delivered completely online through asynchronous learning. There are no in-person requirements. Your professor will share learning resources and activities with you via our online learning platform, Moodle.

What this means

There are no scheduled classes. You can study and work through course material whenever it is convenient for you within the established timelines provided by your professors. Your professors will provide regular opportunities for you to ask questions and request clarification. You, your classmates, and your professors are not necessarily accessing the online course material at the same time. Certain exams must be completed at an invigilated test centre or in-person at the college.

Online - Flex

Definition

The program is delivered in real-time (synchronous), and you will participate in scheduled, instructor-led classes at specific dates and times in person or via web conferencing.

What this means

For most online (flex) programs, you can choose to attend each scheduled class how you want: in person or via web conferencing, unless there is a mandatory in-person requirement for a particular class. This delivery enables you to continue to learn even when you are not able to be present in class. Certain exams must be completed at an invigilated test centre or in-person at the college.

Online - HyFlex

Definition

The program is delivered through both synchronous and asynchronous learning, both in-person and virtually, and you can move between all learning options seamlessly.

What this means

This program delivery offers the ultimate flexibility. You have the option to study on campus, online in real-time, or online asynchronous (independent study), or a combination of all options. Best of all, you can change how you take your courses at any time to fit your learning style and other commitments. Certain exams must be completed at an invigilated test centre or in-person at the college.

International students! We highly recommend you visit the IRCC website regularly to monitor important updates relevant to your study permit and post-graduation work permit requirements. Should there be significant changes to this policy, Cambrian College will communicate with you directly.

Online - Virtual

Definition

The program is delivered in real-time (synchronous), and you will participate in scheduled, instructor-led classes at specific dates and times via our online learning platform, Moodle.

What this means

You will take classes fully online and follow a schedule to join your professors and classmates in real-time using web conferencing platforms. There is no in-person delivery and no in-person requirements. Attendance and participation are expected, just like in a physical classroom, and your learning experience will mirror the structure and interaction of a traditional classroom. This format supports live engagement with instructors and peers while allowing the flexibility of learning from any location.

Certain exams must be completed at an invigilated test centre or in-person at the college.

Executive model

Definition

The program is delivered through online asynchronous coursework with short in-person requirements at our campus (residencies) at various points throughout the program (in person, occasional weekends). Please contact your program coordinator for more specific information regarding in-person components.

What it means

With the exception of the short in-person requirements at our campus, there are no scheduled classes.

A faculty member (your professor) is engaged with you and your classmates teaching and learning at the same time (in real time). Your courses are scheduled at a pre-determined day and time on your timetable.

Asynchronous teaching and learning

Your professor shares learning resources and activities with you and your classmates in a flexible way, typically via our online learning platform – Moodle.
