SUDBURY –. Every year, Cambrian celebrates its most recent retirees, as well as its longest-serving employees and those who have achieved exemplary service.
Cambrian held its annual Rendez-Vous event this week. At this year’s reception, Cambrian honoured 27 employees with at least 20 years of service, along with 21 recent retirees.
“Rendez-Vous is one of our favourite events,” says Alison De Luisa, Vice-President of Human Resources, Student Services and International. “It is when we come together to celebrate the amazing people at Cambrian. Our employees are at the heart of Cambrian – their commitment ensures that our student have an amazing experience inside and outside of the classroom.”
A highlight of Rendez-Vous is the presentation of the President’s Awards for Excellence, to recognize outstanding contributions by individuals and departments. This year’s recipients of the President’s Awards for Excellence include:
- Kelly Niemela: Support Staff category. Niemela is a lab technologist for the schools of Business, Creative Industries, and Information Technology. Her active involvement in various committees and strategic decision-making contributes to Cambrian’s success.
- Brandi Braithwaite: Administration category. Braithwaite is the Director of Alumni and Development. Her expertise in fundraising and partner engagement has led to significant increases in donations, including a record-breaking $3.7 million in 2024.
- Aaron Langille: Faculty category. Dr. Aaron Langille is a professor in the School of Creative Industries and program coordinator of the Game Design program. In addition to teaching, he has taken an active lead in curriculum development and community engagement.
- Enrolment Centre: Team category. The Enrolment Centre team manages admissions, registration, student records, and financial aid, and has adapted quickly to recent policy changes for international students.
- Heather Wiebe: Outstanding Service by an Individual: Heather Wiebe is a professor in the School of Health Sciences in our Massage Therapy Programs. She is known for her innovative teaching, proactive approach to addressing learning gaps, and mentorship of colleagues.
“This year, we have truly seen how dedicated, resilient, and focused our team of employees are,” says President Kristine Morrissey. “I am grateful to be surrounded by so many amazing people. I would also like to say a fond farewell to our retiring team members. They have each helped shape Cambrian into the successful and strong institution that it is today. I want to thank our long serving employees and congratulate the winners of this year’s President’s Awards of Excellence.”
