Prepare for an MRI technologist career with hands-on training
Can you put people at ease? Can you stay focused and organized in stressful situations while working in a fast-paced environment? Tick all the boxes with a rewarding career as a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) technologist
This post-graduate concentrated program provides the technical skills for you to excel in this field, backed up by a full-time clinical placement at an affiliated hospital site. Simulation and scenario labs are used to demonstrate and perform MRI procedures, venipuncture insertion, intravenous therapy, and emergency procedures. Upon successful completion of the program, you will be eligible to write the Canadian Association of Medical Radiation Technologist’s entry-to-practice certification exam in magnetic resonance imaging.

Admissions
Admission requirements
Graduation from an accredited and relevant diploma or degree program such as Medical Radiation Imaging Sciences, Medical Radiation Technology, Nuclear Medicine, Radiation Therapy, and Diagnostic Medical Sonography/Ultrasound programs.
Additional admission requirements
- Completion of the MRI Application Screening Form
- Current Cardiac Life Support Certificate Health Care Provider (HCP) Level (must be current for entire program)
- Current Standard First Aid Certificate (must be valid for entire program)
- Respiratory Mask Fit testing (for N-95 mask)
- Criminal record check with vulnerable sector screening
- WHMIS certification
- AODA certificate
- Health and Safety Awareness training
Proof of immunization status at registration for the following:
- Immunizations: measles, mumps, rubella, varicella, polio, hepatitis B
- Current tetanus – diphtheria – pertussis vaccination
- COVID-19 immunizations
- Two-step TB test
- Current influenza immunization (when available for season)
- Hepatitis A vaccination is recommended but not required
Clinical placement requirements
Clinical placement is a requirement for the completion of this certificate. The clinical placement is one semester in length and will be delivered at an accredited hospital in Canada that is an approved clinical partner of Cambrian College. You will continue your full-time clinical placement hours through the reading week without interruption.
Due to the limited availability of placements in specialized fields, you could be placed at any of the approved clinical partner sites. You should be prepared to move to attend clinical placement.
Please note that all related clinical placement expenses such as travel, parking, and accommodation are your responsibility.

System requirements for assistive technology
To access the widest range of assistive technology (AT), a Windows-based computer is recommended.
- Recommended OS: Windows 10 or newer
- Recommended CPU: Intel or AMD multicore processor
- Recommended RAM: 8 GB
- Recommended storage for assistive technology: 8 GB of available hard drive of solid state drive space (please note this is not the total drive size and refers specifically to available space needed for assistive technology)
- Recommended audio: Speakers or headphones for text-to-speech and microphone for speech input.
While Apple computers can provide many AT options, some specialized software may not be available/compatible with this platform. Please consult with the Glenn Crombie Centre for further details.
