Hanson Venture Lab will help students pursue their own business ideas
SUDBURY – Students at Cambrian College with an entrepreneurial spirit have a new place on campus to help develop their business ideas.
As part of Research and Innovation Week, Cambrian College officially opened its new entrepreneurial space at its Barry Downe campus, the Hanson Venture Lab.
The new facility will foster entrepreneurship opportunities and experiences for students, alumni and the community through workshops, lectures, collaborations with existing entrepreneurs, and networking.
Hanson College contributed $1.3 million for the construction and equipping of the Venture Lab as well as an endowment fund to support student entrepreneurs.
“For 20 years we have worked together with Cambrian College to see students grow, thrive, and succeed,” says Shouyi Ma, President and CEO of Hanson College. “With this new facility, I hope we will continue with that legacy of dedication to student success for more years to come.”
“We have enjoyed a successful partnership with Hanson since 2005 and this collaboration will help expand opportunities for students,” says Cambrian College President, Kristine Morrissey. “The Hanson Venture Lab will give our students a dedicated environment to bring their entrepreneurial ideas to life, collaborate with peers, and gain the skills they need to succeed in today’s fast-paced business world. We are very grateful for this very generous contribution from Hanson College that has made this space possible.”
Participating in the official opening of the new Hanson Venture Lab was Charulatha Vijayakumar, a recent graduate of Cambrian’s Mobile Application Development and Project Management programs, a past winner of Cambrian R&D’s Student Innovation Challenge, and the founder of CollSong Inc.
“The New Hanson Venture Lab represents a critical step in supporting student entrepreneurs like me,” adds Charulatha Vijayakumar. “This space means that future innovators will have the support they need to turn their visions into reality. I encourage every student to believe in the business idea that they value and work towards chasing their business dreams.”
