Handy tips for stress-free parking on the Cambrian College campus!
From 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekdays, all vehicles on campus must have a valid parking permit. You can buy a permit for the month, semester, or year. Parking is free on evenings, weekends, and holidays.
Standard permits - signup and purchase
Looking for more information about permits? They are sold by month, semester, or year (standard permits). Here are some further details:
- All monthly permits expire at the end of the calendar month in which they are purchased
- All semester permits expire at the end of the semester in which they are purchased
- All fall annual permits expire on August 31
- All winter annual permits expire on December 31
- All spring annual permits expire on April 30
Parking rates
To purchase a parking permit, register (create an account) or sign in to Park Admin – Operations Commander. New users will need their vehicle license plate number to complete the process. Make your purchase online or visit Parking Services in room 1422 to pay in person.

Short-term permits
Cambrian also offers short-term permits to park on campus! Hourly or daily permits are available through the Operations Commander site or mobile application or the HotSpot mobile application. HotSpot does require the user to have a profile, Operations Commander does have a guest option (no profile), however for faster check-out a profile is recommended.
Specialized parking/services
In addition to the standard and short-term permits, Cambrian also offers specialized parking services, including express parking spaces, accessible parking, carpool parking, residence parking, and electric vehicle charging stations!
Express parking spaces
Cambrian also offers designated 15-minute express parking spaces on the right-hand side of the pick-up/drop-off loop at the main entrance. There are also designated 15-minute express parking spaces in Lot 9 across from the residence dormitories.
Please note: these spaces are monitored.
Accessible Parking
Cambrian’s Parking Services is pleased to offer accessible parking options!
You are required to have a Ministry of Transportation Accessible Permit, and we ask that you park in the designated accessible parking spots and clearly display the Ministry permit, along with a valid form of parking permit.
Any student or staff member requiring temporary accommodation because of a temporary disability may obtain a temporary accessible permit from Parking Services (room 1422), subject to approval. Short-term accessible parking requires a valid form of parking payment.
Residence parking
Do you live in Cambrian’s Barry Downe Residence? All students living in residence must park in residence Lot R at all times (including evenings and weekends) and may not park in gold or burgundy lots without purchasing the respective permit. Lot R is the only parking lot where overnight parking is permitted. Please note that vehicles left overnight in any other lot will be ticketed.

Carpooling parking
Cambrian has set up designated parking spots at its main campus for staff and students who want to carpool. Spaces are reserved for groups of people (2 or more) that travel together in a single vehicle. Spaces have been designated in both Burgundy and Gold lots (paid parking in effect – lot appropriate permit required), the spaces are located at the front of lots 3, 5, 10, and 15 and are marked with signage.
Electric vehicle charging
Cambrian is pleased to offer EV charging stations as part of its Cambrian Parking Services. These new EV stations are part of our overall commitment to be a more sustainable campus with a smaller carbon footprint.
There are 20 level 2 electric vehicle charging stations in three locations at the Barry Downe campus.
- Lot 15 – 4-dual port EV charging stations (8 chargers)
- Lot 6 – 3-dual port EV charging stations (6 chargers)
- Lot 9 – 3-dual port EV charging stations (6 chargers)
Only electric vehicles actively charging are permitted in these spaces (4-hour time limit).
Charging rates are $2.50 per hour, and parking is free for the first 4 hours. After 4 hours, a $2.50 parking charge will be added to the charging rate.
Motorcycles/ATVs/snowmobiles
Motorcycles, ATVs, and snowmobiles are entitled to park in any vehicle parking space with a valid form of parking payment.
Refunds
Refunds may be obtained for annual permits and semester permits on a prorated basis:
- Annual fall permits will be refunded until January 31
- Annual winter permits will be refunded until May 31
- Annual spring permits will be refunded until September 30
Semester permits are refunded within 60 days of purchase only. A $25 fee will apply to all permit refunds. There are no refunds on monthly permits.
Parking enforcement
Please note that failure to comply with the Parking Regulations may result in fines, towing, wheel immobilization, and/or cancellation of parking privileges.
It is a criminal offense to duplicate, counterfeit, or alter Cambrian College parking permits. Also, please note that unpaid violations may be sent to an external collection agency and could be subject to additional fees.

Parking offence appeal process
Students, faculty, staff, and visitors have a right to appeal a parking offence notice on the grounds that in spite of displaying proof of payment and parking legally in an authorized parking lot, they were issued a parking offence notice.
Persons wishing to appeal a violation must register their appeal within 14 days online by accessing our online parking system.
Parking and Traffic Regulations
General Information
The Parking and Traffic Regulations posted on the Cambrian College website shall be considered the current version of the parking and traffic regulations for Cambrian College.
Parking regulations for Cambrian College were established to encourage the safe, orderly, and equitable use of parking spaces that are available to students, faculty, and visitors on campus.
It is important to remember that the operations of a vehicle on Cambrian College property is a privilege that has been granted by the College. Please be respectful of these privileges.
All vehicles parked on the College campus must have a valid parking permit or temporary digital permit. All vehicles without a valid form of parking will be ticketed. Unpaid fines may result in our vehicle being immobilized or sent to an external agency for collection.
1.0
The Parking and Traffic Regulations are applicable 24 hours per day, 7 days per week, 365 days per year. Cambrian College’s Parking Services exist to provide a service that best meets the needs of the College community.
1.1
Vehicles shall be parked only in designated parking areas. Parking is prohibited in any service, emergency or loading zone, bus stop, roadway, land, driveway, or any grass or landscaped areas or any other areas not specifically designated for parking.
1.2
As Cambrian College grounds are private property, the right to maintain full jurisdiction over all vehicle traffic and parking and to take appropriate action for violations of these regulations. The College reserves the right to invoke general law including the Highway Traffic Act, the Trespass to Property Act and the City of Greater Sudbury Private Parking By-law No. 2010-1 Sect. 39 at its discretion.
1.3
Cambrian College is not responsible for any loss, personal injuries or damage to motor vehicles, including vehicle contents, however caused. Drivers and pedestrians use Cambrian lots, roads, and pathways at own risk. Nevertheless, any such injuries, losses, or damage must be reported to Cambrian’s Public Safety office, located at the main entrance (room 2036), as soon as possible after the event.
1.4
All vehicle operators are required to comply with all parking and traffic regulations and are subject to application action for violations. Failure to comply with Cambrian Parking and Traffic Regulations may result in fines, wheel immobilization, accounts being added to student accounts, accounts being sent to a collection agency and the cancellation of parking privileges.
1.5
All vehicles left on college property for a continuous period of 48 hours or more will be considered abandoned unless Parking Services and Public Safety are notified and will be treated as such by the College and may be ticketed and/or towed away at the owner’s expense. All costs and charges associated with the towing of a vehicle from campus shall be the responsibility of the operator/registered owner of said vehicle and absolutely no liability shall be attached to Cambrian College for any damage caused during the towing operation.
1.6
Overnight parking – Overnight parking (12:00 am to 6:00 am) is not permitted in any lot (except for the Residence Lot R) without the express permission of Parking Services. Vehicles parked in any exterior lot after 12:00 am will be ticketed and/or towed away at the owner’s expense.
1.7
Where a wheel immobilization device has been fitted to a vehicle by Parking Services/Public Safety, absolutely no liability shall be attached to Cambrian College for any damage caused by the owner/operator of said vehicle or any other person in an attempt to remove the device on their own or to move or drive the vehicle with the device still affixed. Furthermore, where an attempt is made to remove the device on their own and the device is damaged, the owner/operator is responsible for the replacement cost of the wheel immobilization device.
Parking Areas
2.0
Vehicles shall be parked only in designated parking areas. Parking is prohibited in any service, emergency or loading zone, bus stop, roadway, land, driveway, or any grass or landscaped areas or any other areas not specifically designated for parking. Contractors may be exempt with express permission from Facilities Management and have a valid contractors parking permit.
2.1
Use of fire routes, laneways, pathways is prohibited, except for emergency services, Public Safety personnel, college vehicles, and authorized contractors.
2.2
Vehicles parked on campus shall have a valid form of parking, vehicles without a valid form of parking will be ticketed (refer to section 3). All parking permits are subject to the following terms and conditions:
- Parking permits remain the property of Cambrian College and may be cancelled and parking privileges revoked at any time by the College for violations of the Parking and Traffic Regulations.
- Only permits issued through Parking Services are considered valid. Permits obtained by any other means will not be recognized.
- Permits are not transferrable, visit Parking Services to discuss refund options.
- The responsibility of finding a designated parking space rests with the vehicle operator. Cambrian College has numerous parking lots, if the desired parking lot is full the operator can move to another lot.
- No new parking permit will be issued if there are outstanding violations in the user’s account.
2.3
Pick-up/drop off loop – There is a pick-up and drop-off loop in front of the main entrance of the College. This is an idle free zone; drivers are required to turn off their vehicles if waiting to pick up a passenger. Vehicles must not be left unattended, unattended vehicles will be ticketed.
2.3
15-minute express parking – There are designated 15-minute express parking spaces on the right side of the pickup/drop off loop at the main entrance and in lot 9 across from the residence dormitories. There is no cost to use these spaces, however, they are strictly monitored by Public Safety, users exceeding the 15-minute limit will be ticketed.
2.4
Accessible parking – Those who require accessible parking who are in possession of a Ministry of Transportation Accessible parking permit are encouraged to park in any designated accessible parking spot (whenever possible) but can park in other spaces as required. The accessible parking permit must be clearly displayed and accompanied by a valid form of parking payment.
2.5
Accessible parking (temporary accommodation) – Any community member requiring parking accommodation may obtain a temporary permit from Parking Services, subject to approval in room 1422. The short-term accessible parking permit must be clearly displayed and accompanied by a valid form of parking payment.
2.6
Residence parking – Students living in residence who park a vehicle on campus must park in the Residence Lot – Lot R at all times (including evenings and weekends) and may not park in any Gold or Burgundy lot without purchasing a temporary digital permit. Lot R is the only parking lot where overnight parking is permitted. Vehicles left in any other lot will be ticketed without the express permission of Parking Services.
2.7
Carpool parking – Designated parking spots have been designated in both Burgundy and Gold lots (paid parking remains in effect) for use by groups of people (2 of more) that travel together in a single vehicle.
2.8
Electric vehicle charging – Only electric vehicles actively charging are permitted to park in the EV reserved parking spaces (4-hour time limit), other vehicles or EV not charging will be ticketed. For the first 4 hours only the charging rates apply, after 4 hours an additional parking charge will be added to the charging rate.
2.9
Motorcycles/ATVs/Snowmobiles – Alternative vehicles are entitled to park in any designated vehicle parking space, with a valid form of parking payment.
Enforcement
3.0
Failure to comply with the Parking and Traffic Regulations may result in fines, towing, wheel immobilization and/or cancellation of parking privileges. It is a criminal offense to duplicate, counterfeit, alter or otherwise use unauthorized Cambrian College parking permits. Cambrian College may proceed with criminal charges of fraud in any of these cases. Non-enforcement of any regulation in any one instance will not be interpreted as a waiver for the future.
3.1
Violations and penalties – The Parking and Traffic Regulations are strictly enforced by Parking Services and Public Safety which prohibits the unauthorized parking or leaving of a motor vehicle on private property. All violations are issued in accordance with the Trespass to Property Act.
All $50 tickets will be reduced to $35 if paid within 14 days of issue. Violations may be paid online by accessing Sign In | Cambrian College | OPS-COM, in person at Parking Services in room 1422, or by calling 705-566-8101 ext. 7998.
All outstanding parking fines and fees will remain a debt to Cambrian College until paid in full. All NSF cheques will be subject to a $45 administration fee.
Disregarding parking offences may result in the suspension of college parking privileges, wheel immobilization, external collections, and prosecution under the Trespass to Property Act.
A $15.50 fee will be applied to all accounts that are subject to a Ministry of Transportation license plate search. The MTO search is to determine the registered owner of the vehicle to provide notification prior to sending the outstanding account to an external collections’ agency.
A $50 administration fee will be applied to all accounts that are sent to an external collections’ agency.

3.2
Appeals – Violators have the right to appeal against a parking offence on the grounds that despite having paid for parking and parking legally in an authorized space, they were issued an offence notice. A violation can only be appealed within 14 days of the issuance of the offence by accessing the parking system at Sign In | Cambrian College | OPS-COM. Status of the appeal will be sent via email. All decisions by the Manager, Ancillary Business Operations, are final. A claim of not being familiar with the Parking and Traffic Regulations does not constitute grounds for appeal.
3.3
Wheel immobilization – A vehicle may be immobilized due to multiple unpaid infractions or fraudulent activity. Payment of outstanding violations or a commitment to pay through a promissory note must be completed before the wheel immobilization device is removed.
Where a wheel immobilization device has been fitted to a vehicle by Parking Services/Public Safety, absolutely no liability shall be attached to Cambrian College for any damage caused by the owner/operator of said vehicle or any other person in an attempt to remove the device on their own or to move or drive the vehicle with the device still affixed. Furthermore, where an attempt is made to remove the device on their own and the device is damaged, the owner/operator is responsible for the replacement cost of the wheel immobilization device.
If your vehicle is immobilized, please visit Parking Services in room 1422 between 8:00 am and 4:00 pm. After hours, contact the Public Safety office located at the main entrance, or call 705-566-8101 ext. 7911.
3.4
Parking privileges – Privileges may be rescinded for any contravention of the Parking and Traffic Regulations. Suspended vehicles are not permitted to enter or park on the College campus for any reason. Suspended vehicles found on campus will be immobilized or towed, subject to additional fees and fines.
Parking privileges may be suspended for:
- Non-payment of fines
- Repeat violations or obvious disregard for regulations
- Using altered, duplicated or otherwise unauthorized permit
Reinstatement of parking privileges for reasons other than outstanding fines must be applied for in writing. Parking services will reinstate parking privileges provided that:
- All outstanding fines and fees have been paid
- The period of suspension time has lapsed
- All requested requirements for reinstatement have been met
