SUDBURY – A major transportation company in northeastern Ontario has become the driving sponsor of Team/Équipe Sudbury at the annual Skills Ontario competition.
Manitoulin Transport has signed on to be Team/Équipe Sudbury’s presenting sponsor for the next ten years.
“We are so honoured and proud to be the presenting sponsor for Team/Équipe Sudbury,” says Jeff Smith, Vice-Chair of Manitoulin Transport and the Manitoulin Group of Companies. “We are a company that lives the skilled trades and we want to do everything we can to support the next generation of skilled workers. Canada needs more skilled tradespeople and we want to be part of the solution.”
Team/Équipe Sudbury is comprised of students from Cambrian College, College Boréal, Rainbow District School Board, Sudbury Catholic District School Board, Conseil scolaire de Grand Nord and Conseil scolaire catholique Nouvelon. Every year, Team/Équipe Sudbury competes at Skills Ontario, a competition for elementary, high school, and college students covering dozens of categories from agriculture to welding.
Since its inception in 2018, Team/Équipe Sudbury has won 30 medals at Skills Ontario. In total, since 2005, students at Cambrian College have won more than 60 medals at Skills Ontario, with an additional five medals at Skills Canada.
“This is a great partnership between two very successful entities, Manitoulin Transport and Team/Équipe Sudbury,” says Melanie Cacciotti, Executive Director of Alumni and Development at Cambrian College. “Both know how to win and Manitoulin Transport has been a long-time supporter of our students at Cambrian. We look forward to a lot more success over the next ten years.”
Team/Équipe Sudbury is gearing up for this year’s Skills Ontario competition, which is taking place May 6-7 in Toronto.
