SUDBURY – Cambrian College is increasing by 40 the number of students it will accept into its Paramedic program, as part of an effort to boost the number of paramedics in the province.
Last month, the Ontario government announced it will fund more than 300 additional spots in paramedic programs at 14 of Ontario’s public colleges, including Cambrian.
Twenty spaces will be added to Cambrian’s September intake of new students. To accommodate the other 20 spots, Cambrian is introducing a first-ever, one-time intake of new students in the 2024 winter term, starting in January.
“Cambrian’s paramedic graduates are strong, practice-ready professionals and we are committed to helping address the current health human resource crisis to ensure that communities have the paramedics they need,” says June Raymond, dean of Cambrian’s School of Health Sciences and Emergency Services.
In addition to offering a two-year Paramedic program, Cambrian also offers a one-year Advanced Care Paramedic graduate certificate for students who have already earned a Paramedic diploma.
