SUDBURY – This fall term, Cambrian College wants to make sure less rubber meets the road, at least in its parking lots.
Cambrian has set up designated parking spots at its main campus in Greater Sudbury for staff and students who want to carpool. They will be located at the front of lots 3, 5, 10 and 15 and are marked with signage.
“This is the latest measure we have put in place to lower our carbon footprint and promote a more sustainable campus,” explains Janneke Nicholls, Cambrian’s vice-president of finance, administration and applied research. “This is one way in which we can encourage people to carpool to and from campus.”
Parking spots for carpooling is the latest in a series of new measures to help Cambrian reduce its carbon footprint, become a more sustainable campus, and advance the United Nations Sustainable Development goals. The measures include:
- More bike racks on campus, including bike racks that can accommodate wide-tire and electric bikes.
- A bike repair station at the college’s main entrance.
Cambrian College is Northern Ontario’s largest college, with more than 100 programs. Cambrian’s main campus is in Greater Sudbury, with satellite centres in Espanola and Little Current. For more information about Cambrian College, click here.
