More Hands on Deck: Province Offers Free Tuition for Select Health Care Programs at Cambrian College

Jan 23, 2023

SUDBURY – Cambrian College is part of a provincial initiative to attract more health care workers to the Greater Sudbury region.

The Government of Ontario has launched the Ontario Learn and Stay Grant program. The government will provide free tuition and funding for books and supplies for students enrolling in certain health care programs such as nursing, practical nursing, paramedicine, and medical laboratory technology.

“We think this is a great way to attract more people to these fields, particularly in underserviced areas such as northeastern Ontario,” says Dr. Paula Gouveia, Cambrian’s Vice-President Academic. “We’re very excited to be part of the Learn and Stay Grant initiative.”

In return for the funding, students who graduate must commit to working in the region where they received their education. For every one year of schooling students complete under the Ontario Learn and Stay Grant program, they must work in the region for a six-month period.

Funding will be converted to a repayable loan if certain conditions are not satisfied, including completing the service commitment.
