SUDBURY –  For the fourth year in a row, the Cambrian College men’s volleyball team has reached the podium at the Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) championships.

The Cambrian Shield earned the silver medal at this weekend’s championships, hosted by Cambrian.

The Shield faced the Humber College Hawks in the final in a repeat of last year’s gold medal game.

Cambrian reached the championship final after defeating the Fanshawe College Falcons in the semi-finals.

With its win, the Humber Hawks won their sixth straight OCAA title and now advance to the national championships.

It was Cambrian’s second silver medal in a row, on top of two bronze medal performances the previous years.

“We lost but we still won, as we claimed a divisional championship and silver for the second year in a row,” explains Tim Yu, Cambrian’s Manager of Athletics. “We had a strong finish by our women’s team as well.  We had more fans this year than last. It was busier, louder, and by being in that gym you could feel the love and support that has been generated by our varsity programs. We are still building.  We’ve come along way in a short period of time.”

This past season was a banner year for Cambrian Shield volleyball. The women’s team rallied with a strong second half of the season to finish in third place in the OCAA West Division, and advance to the quarter-finals.

Eight members of the men’s and women’s team and head coach Dale Beausoleil also earned OCAA awards this season.

In addition to volleyball, Cambrian College competes in men’s and women’s varsity badminton, cross-country running and soccer.
