Cambrian College unveils new look for varsity athletics

Oct 7, 2024

Cambrian College has updated the name and visual identify for its varsity sports teams. The Cambrian Golden Shield are now the Cambrian Shield. Team uniforms are now gold and burgundy to match the college’s official colours, and the college’s new shield and flame logo replaces the dragon’s head crest. Burnie the Dragon remains the mascot for the Cambrian Shield.

SUDBURY – It’s a new look and a new name this year for Cambrian College’s varsity athletes.

Today, Cambrian unveiled a new visual identity for its varsity badminton, cross-country running, soccer, and volleyball teams.

They are now known as the Cambrian Shield, replacing the previous name of the Cambrian Golden Shield. The dragon’s head crest has been replaced with the shield and flame logo that is central to the college’s new visual identity, which was unveiled earlier this year.

The uniforms for the varsity teams are also switching from gold and black to gold and burgundy, to align with the college’s official brand colours.

Burnie the Dragon remains the official mascot of the Cambrian Shield.

The new visual identity was collaboratively developed by Cambrian’s marketing and student life teams and the Cambrian Athletic Association, one of the college’s student governments that represents varsity and recreational athletic programs.

“When we updated the college visual identity, we felt that our varsity athletes should also share that new brand, as they are representing Cambrian here on campus, in our community and across Ontario, and we wanted that brand look to be consistent,” explains Cambrian’s President, Kristine Morrissey. “It is a great new look and fully aligned with our college colours and logo. We are one college united under one Shield that our athletes are going to wear with pride.”

Cambrian College invites the community to come out and cheer on the Shield during this year’s varsity season.
