The comprehensive Mine Hoist certificate program is intended for millwrights, heavy-duty mechanics, electricians, supervisors, and anyone associated with hoist maintenance. Students will examine the operations of a mine hoisting plant, mine hoist conveyances, and related mechanical systems, electrical systems, safety controllers, brakes, and gain a knowledge of hoist rope systems.

Mine Hoist – Overview | MHP1000

Description
Students will examine the operations of a mine hoisting plant. This course will provide an overview of the hoisting plant and is a pre-requisite for the remaining five courses in the program. The components found within the mine hoisting plant will be examined, and new technology and industry trends will be investigated. The legislation specific to hoisting plants will be reviewed while considering the roles and responsibility of the various personnel in the mine hoisting plant.

Mine Hoist – Conveyances | MHP1001

Description
Students will examine mine hoist conveyances and related mechanical systems including types, guides, attachment pins, skips, loading pockets, cages, shaft structure, inspections, and manufacturer’s specifications. The legislation related to the inspection and maintenance of mine hoist conveyances will be studied.

Mine Hoist – Electrical | MHP1002

Description
Students will examine mine hoist electrical systems and related control, safety, and communication systems. Relevant legislation regarding the inspection and maintenance of these systems will also be examined.

Mine Hoist – Safety Controllers |MHP1003

Description
Students will acquire knowledge of mine hoist safety controllers and the related mechanical and electrical systems including Lily Controller, electrical components, diagrams, PLCs, and programming. The relevant legislation related to the inspection and maintenance of such systems in Ontario will also be examined.

Mine Hoist – Brakes | MHP1004

Description
Students will become familiar with mine hoist brakes and the related mechanical systems including fluid power systems, brake design, and hoisting plant commissioning. Roles and responsibilities regarding braking systems will be examined, along with relevant legislation regarding the operation, inspection, and maintenance of these systems within the mine hoisting plants in Ontario.

Description
Students will gain knowledge of hoist rope systems and the related mechanical systems found within the mine hoisting plant including wire ropes. Sheaves, drums. Attachments, rope lay, ordering, deterioration and failure, lubrication, and testing. Relevant legislation related to the inspection and maintenance of such systems in Ontario will also be examined.
