Turn your passion for the environment into a career that protects and restores our natural surroundings. Gain the technical skills and practical field experience to identify, measure, and record environmental variables within the air, water, soil, and living organisms. You’ll use state-of-the-art equipment to evaluate and monitor contaminated ecosystems. You’ll develop your technical writing skills to analyze, interpret, and evaluate field data while building your knowledge of environmental regulations and policies.
With a focus on monitoring industrial activities, you’ll explore air quality issues, land restoration, and water conservation, preparing you for careers with industries required to comply with environmental regulations.

Milman Industries – This placement offered students the opportunity to gain practical work experience at Milman Industries Inc. which manages seven different companies – BM Metals Services, Chemiqa, Consolidated Logistics Inc., Diesel Electric Services, Sudbury Lime, Consolidated Industrial Products, and Herby. Each company strives to serve its customers on various levels of its value chain and offers them the utmost quality and support. This has been achieved by managing a diverse set of companies under Milman Industries Inc. This is achieved through innovation and accommodation of each company’s product and service offerings.
Conservation Sudbury – During this Environmental Technician placement opportunity, students provided assistance in the implementation of Conservation Sudbury’s environmental monitoring programs and with the trails-maintenance program at the Lake Laurentian Conservation Area.
Their duties included:
- Water-related fieldwork (stream flow measurements, water quality sampling, groundwater monitoring)
- Tree assessments and site visits related to tree-planting programs
- Trails maintenance (building/repairing infrastructure like boardwalks and stairs, trail tread maintenance, trail drainage, signage, and risk management inspections)
- Facility maintenance (garbage, trail guide boxes, and mutt mitt dispenser refilling)
- Some office duties, including data entry and management, outreach material production, and editing
Additional details: You will undertake an approved 4-week internship with a company or agency involved in environmental work or research.

Specific program pathways
Algoma University – advanced standing opportunity
Graduates of this program meeting a 3.0 GPA requirement will receive 45 transfer credits towards the Bachelor of Arts in Geography degree program at Algoma University.
Atlantic Technological University (Ireland) – advanced standing opportunity
Graduates of this program meeting a 2.0 GPA requirement will be eligible to enter into third year of the Bachelor of Science in Environmental Protection degree program, with the opportunity to progress into the Honours Bachelor of Science in Environmental Science program at the Atlantic Technological University in Ireland.

Success in this program requires that you come equipped with some program-specific technology requirements.

- Processor: i5 Intel i5 or equivalent processor
- Graphics: High-end graphics video card (consider a dedicated video card with 1 GB of video memory)
- RAM: 4 GB of RAM
- Storage space: 250 GB HD
Please note, that industry-standard software that you will access as part of your program will not be compatible with every device. These minimum technology requirements will allow you to access the software, but will not provide the optimal user experience. It is recommended you use a computer with stronger capabilities. System requirements for assistive technology
To access the widest range of assistive technology (AT), a Windows-based computer is recommended.
- Recommended OS: Windows 10 or newer
- Recommended CPU: Intel or AMD multicore processor
- Recommended RAM: 8 GB
- Recommended storage for assistive technology: 8 GB of available hard drive of solid state drive space (please note this is not the total drive size and refers specifically to available space needed for assistive technology)
- Recommended audio: Speakers or headphones for text-to-speech and microphone for speech input.
While Apple computers can provide many AT options, some specialized software may not be available/compatible with this platform. Please consult with the Glenn Crombie Centre for further details.
