Cambrian Massage Therapy students provide sideline relief at LU Kinesiology Games – March 31

SUDBURY, ON –  Students in Cambrian College’s Massage Therapy program volunteered quite a few helping hands at this year’s Kinesiology Games (KinGames), hosted this March at Laurentian University.

Participants from 25 schools from coast-to-coast gathered for the largest undergraduate Kinesiology conference in Canada. Students competed in the four pillars of the KinGames: academics, athletics, dance, and spirit.

On the sidelines waiting for them were Cambrian’s Massage Therapy program students, putting their own skills to the test by providing KinGames contestants with muscle relaxation and pain relief to counter the rigours of the competition.

“It’s a good experience for Massage Therapy students because it gets them out into the community where they can network with other peers and professionals from other schools and across different healthcare sectors,” says Cambrian Massage Therapy professor and program coordinator Brandi Purvis St. Amand. “They also get to represent our program and the massage profession by showcasing their knowledge about massage therapy which can boost their confidence and promote a sense of pride in their chosen education and profession.”

Cambrian offers at two-year, six-semester accelerated Massage Therapy program. Through holistic teachings in year one and hands-on training in year two, students gain in-depth knowledge of anatomy, physiology, pathophysiology, and neurology, along with intensive training in massage therapy techniques to provide the best treatment and prevention options for real-world clients.

Cambrian’s Massage Therapy program also provides a community massage clinic. The clinic offers standard massage therapy services, as well as specialized massage for pregnant women and infants.
