Robots ready: Cambrian College set to host VEX robotics competition – January 9

Jan 9, 2026

Students will be at Cambrian College January 16-17 for the VEX Robotics Competition.

SUDBURY – Cambrian College is preparing to welcome students, educators, industry partners, and robotics enthusiasts for an upcoming VEX V5 Robotics Competition, an event that will bring innovation, teamwork and hands-on learning to the forefront.

The competition is being held at Cambrian’s Barry Downe campus January 17.

During VEX V5, teams of students design, build, and program robots to compete in a dynamic, challenge-based environment, showcasing skills in engineering, problem-solving, and collaboration. Events like VEX V5 Robotics play a critical role in preparing students for careers in advanced manufacturing, automation, engineering, and technology.

“Events like this are about much more than competition,” says James Allman, program coordinator and professor of Mechatronics and Mechanical Engineering Technology at Cambrian College.  “The VEX Robotics Competition gives students a real-world opportunity to apply what they’re learning in the classroom, work as a team under pressure, and see how creativity and engineering come together. We’re proud to host an event that inspires the next generation of problem-solvers and innovators.”

The VEX Robotics Competition also aligns with Cambrian’s commitment to experiential learning, industry partnership, and preparing students for in-demand careers in science, technology, engineering and skilled trades.

Cambrian College thanks its event sponsors for their support of the VEX V5 Robotics Competition:

  • Push Back Game Sponsor: Bestech.
  • Recharge Sponsor: Schulich Builders.
  • Award Sponsors: Patrick Group of Companies, Workforce Planning for Sudbury and Manitoulin, Cambrian College Office of Student Success and Recruitment.
