Cambrian's new, three-year Bachelor of Applied Computing degree program begins in September of 2026.
Program is first of its kind in Northern Ontario
SUDBURY – Cambrian College is adding another degree program to its menu, this time in computing.
Cambrian’s new Bachelor of Applied Computing program will begin next September. The three-year, seven semester program is the first of its kind in Northern Ontario.
The Bachelor of Applied Computing combines theoretical foundations with hands-on, real-world training and experience. Students will gain knowledge and expertise in programming, software engineering, database systems, web development, computer networks, in addition to other computing hardware and systems fundamentals.
Students can choose one of three specializations in their third year (Artificial Intelligence, Cybersecurity, Data Analytics), followed by a paid internship.
“As industries evolve and increasingly rely on sophisticated digital systems, the need for highly skilled computing professionals has never been greater,” says Janice Clarke, Cambrian’s Vice-President Academic. “Our Bachelor of Applied Computing gives students the technical depth, industry exposure, and problem-solving experience they need to thrive in a fast-moving technology landscape. It’s an important addition to Cambrian’s growing suite of degree programs.”
New full-time students in semester one of the program automatically qualify for a $1,000 scholarship, with the potential for an additional $1,000 scholarship in semester two if their average grade is 75% or higher. There are also accelerated pathways into the program through several of Cambrian’s existing diploma programs.
Upon completion, graduates can pursue careers in such growing fields such as software engineering or design, information systems analysis, cloud security, malware analysis, and machine learning engineering.
“Computing drives innovation in every sector, from health care and finance to mining, education, entertainment, and environmental technology,” says Dr. Yousef Elarian, coordinator for the new Bachelor of Applied Computing program. “This program trains students to think critically, engineer solutions to complex technical challenges, and build intelligent systems that make a meaningful impact. Graduates will be well-positioned for in-demand careers across Canada’s expanding tech ecosystem.”
