SUDBURY A student at Cambrian College has earned an Honourable Mention at a national competition for graphic designers.

Justin Trottier of Sudbury finished among the top six competitors at the annual 2025 Student Awards, hosted by the Association of Registered Graphic Designers (RGD). The RGD Student Awards recognize up-and-coming designers in Canada, highlighting emerging talent and creative excellence.

Trottier earned the Honourable Mention in the Brand Design category for his proposed rebrand for a local bakery. His project stood out for its originality, technical skill, and brand impact.

“I’m deeply grateful to the RGD for providing me with a platform to compete on a national stage,” says Trottier. “Coming from Northern Ontario, these opportunities are invaluable for showcasing the exceptional creative talent that smaller communities have to offer.”

“This recognition speaks volumes about the creativity and hard work of our students, and the quality of learning that happens every day at Cambrian,” says Sean Grant, professor and program coordinator of Cambrian’s Graphic Design program. “Justin’s work demonstrates both artistic vision and professional-level execution, which will serve him well as he transitions into the design industry.”

Trottier’s award is the latest accolade for graphic designers trained at Cambrian College.

Last year, the college’s full-time graphic designers, who are graduates of the program, won RGD’s In-house Design Award for their work in creating a new brand for the college.
