Cambrian College Hosts Research and Innovation Week March 31-April 4

SUDBURY – When it comes to applied research, March is going out like a lion at Cambrian College.

Cambrian is hosting its annual Research and Innovation Week, March 31 to April 4, at its Barry Downe campus in Greater Sudbury.

“Applied research has really taken off at Cambrian and it has put Sudbury on the map, so we’re very excited to showcase the work we do here,” says Dr. Mike Commito, Director of Cambrian R&D, the college’s applied research division. “Research and Innovation Week is also a great way to celebrate the collaborations that have been key to our success. At Cambrian R&D it takes enthusiastic staff, faculty, students, and industry partners to make it all come together.”

It will be a busy five days, full of events including:
1. Guided tours of Cambrian R&D and the Centre for Smart Mining (Monday)
• Stop by anytime between 2 p.m. and 4 p.m. (no appointment necessary) for guided tours of Cambrian R&D and the Centre for Smart Mining.
2. Research Showcase (Tuesday)
• Drop by the eDome from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and check out some of the exciting projects Cambrian R&D has undertaken this past year! Students and industry partners will be on hand.
3. Live Unlikely Innovators podcast (Wednesday)
• Back by popular demand, Research & Innovation Week will include a live episode of Cambrian’s podcast, The Unlikely Innovators. This episode will feature a conversation with Edwin Reilly, co-founder and Partner at Freelandt Caldwell Reilly LLP. Catch the chat live at 10 a.m. in Room 2208 and be sure to subscribe to the show from wherever you get your podcasts.
4. Entrepreneurship Space grand opening (Thursday)
• Join us at 10:30 a.m. for the grand opening of a new space designed to empower students on their entrepreneurial journey. This space will offer workshops, events, and resources to spark innovation and help students bring their business ideas to life.
5. Entrepreneurship workshop (Thursday)
• Cambrian students will have the opportunity to participate in an exclusive workshop with Shouyi Ma, President and CEO of Hanson Canada.
6. Student Innovation Challenge. (Thursday)
• Cambrian students will pitch their business ideas to a panel of judges to compete for $6,500 in prize money. Following the student pitches, our keynote speaker will be Kelly Scott, Managing Director of Barydowne Paint and CEO of PaintPass.

“We’re working with industry partners who are choosing Cambrian R&D because we’re helping them meet some of the challenges they are facing now and may face in the future,” says Janneke Nicholls, Cambrian’s Vice-President of Applied Research. “At Cambrian R&D, we’re getting noticed for the work we are doing, and it’s exciting to share those results with the community.”
