Getting creative with students from across Sudbury! Cambrian College hosted its second annual Cambrian Creative Challenge
Nov 26, 2024
SUDBURY – For the second year in a row, high school students from across Greater Sudbury had the chance to show off their artistic talents at the annual Cambrian Creative Challenge.
Hosted by Cambrian College’s School of Creative Industries, the all-day event was held Tuesday at Cambrian’s main campus. Workshops were held in several of Cambrian’s programs such as Animation, Design and Visual Arts, Game Design, Graphic Design, and Media Communications.
This year’s theme was “Emote.” During the workshops, students had the opportunity to create something original, all for the chance to win prizes.
“It can be tough to create something artistic in a short period of time, but these students really rose to the occasion with some fantastic work,” says Pamela Teed, Chair of Cambrian’s School of Creative Industries. “We do hope the Cambrian Creative Challenge inspires them and gives them a glimpse of the viable career options that can allow them to apply those artistic talents.”
Three $500 scholarships were awarded at this year’s Cambrian Creative Challenge as well as a gift basket of art supplies. Winners of the scholarships demonstrated at least one of the following: outstanding potential in the creative industries, excellent contribution in the CCC workshop (spirit, engagement, collaboration), and creative application of the theme “Emote.”
Winners of the scholarships included Jack Chamberland (Lasalle Secondary School), Hayden MacKinnon (Lively District Secondary School), and Jade Neveu (St. Charles College), while Caiden McKay (Lively District Secondary School) won the gift basket.
Cambrian College offers a variety of programs in its School of Creative Industries, including Animation, Art and Design Fundamentals, Design and Visual Arts, Game Design, Graphic Design, Media Communications, and Public Relations.
