SUDBURY – Cambrian College is making it more convenient to use bicycles on campus.

This college has added more bike racks to its main campus in Sudbury, and the new bike racks will accommodate wide-tire bicycles, including electric bikes.

Cambrian has also placed a new bicycle repair station at its main entrance.

These new measures are part of Cambrian’s strategy to promote a more environmentally sustainable campus with a smaller carbon footprint, while advancing the United Nations Sustainable Development goals.

“We’re taking a very measured approach to lowering our carbon footprint,” explains Janneke Nicholls, Cambrian’s vice-president of finance, administration and applied research. “If we want to encourage more students and staff to cycle to campus, we need to make sure we provide everything we can to make that a realistic and achievable goal. We listened to students and staff who wanted these options. It gives that extra peace of mind to come to campus on two wheels.”

“It’s great to know that if I cycle to work, I have more options, including the ability to make emergency repairs and fill up the tires,” adds Noah Bedard of Sudbury, who is starting the Mechanical Engineering Technology program this September. “Having more bike racks and a repair station is a very tangible way of reducing the carbon footprint on campus and making it easier for students to pedal to school.”
