Cambrian College Hosts Health Care Career Connections

Nov 9, 2023

Kelleen Schonfeldt, Cambrian College’s partnership coordinator for allied health sciences, is the organizer of the college’s Health Care Career Connections conference.

SUDBURY – Across all of Ontario, health care professionals are in short supply. To meet this growing crisis, Cambrian College has answered the call by bringing together students and health care partners from across northeastern Ontario under one roof to explore career options, pathways, and opportunities.

Health Care Career Connections was hosted at Cambrian’s main campus today.

“This is an amazing and packed event,” says Kelleen Schonfeldt, event organizer and Cambrian’s partnership coordinator for allied health sciences. “We know there are well-paying jobs that are going unfilled across the region and the province. We wanted students and potential students to meet with employers, learn what the opportunities are out there and start pursuing those careers that are in demand now and in the near future.”

Health Care Career Connections was geared toward post-secondary students as well as high-school students who are registered in the Health and Wellness Specialist High Skills Majors (SHSM). These are students who already have an interest in health and wellness and have chosen to specialize in this field.

Daytime activities focused on the high-school students, with tours of Cambrian’s health care labs, an employer panel and sessions with Cambrian staff.

Health care employers held a special session with Cambrian staff to discuss how to meet their hiring and recruiting needs.

Evening activities focused on post-secondary students in health-care programs and Cambrian alumni and included an employer panel, networking opportunities and on-the-spot job interviews.

Cambrian College offers more than 20 health sciences and emergency services programs, including new programs such as our Bachelor of Science in Nursing Degree, Practical Nursing to Registered Nursing Bridge, Personal Support Worker (PSW) to Practical Nursing Pathway, and Medical Laboratory Assistant.
