Cambrian College Business students hit the podium again at the Ontario College Marketing Competition

Dec 1, 2021

SUDBURY – The business of winning! For the fourth year in a row, Cambrian College

Business students have earned medals at the annual Ontario College Marketing Competition (OCMC).

Cambrian students turned in 4 top-five finishes:

  • 2nd place – Job Interview category – Alyssa Mirabella (Sudbury)
  • 3rd place – Entrepreneurship category – Paige Lemaitre (Sudbury), Morgan Vienneau (Espanola)
  • 3rd place – Direct Marketing category – Kiara Schwartz (Fochville, South Africa), Carley MacKenzie (Sudbury)
  • 4th place – Sales Presentation category – Colton Blay (Sudbury)

“It’s an honor to be involved with this event every year,” says Kim Donaldson, a professor in the Douglas A. Smith Family School of Business and one of the coaches for Team Cambrian.

“The best part about coaching is the teamwork from both coaches and competitors and that moment when you see students realize the full possibilities of their own potential. No matter where we end up in the standings, this is always a win for me.”

Hosted this year by Humber College, with teams from eleven colleges, OCMC is a student-focused learning experience that provides competitors with the ability to demonstrate their essential, vocational, and employability skills before industry professionals. OCMC serves as a stepping-stone from academia to industry by creating real-world experiences and networking opportunities.

Competing at OCMC is often one of the highlights of a business and marketing student’s academic career.

“Earning this accomplishment has shown me how rewarding stepping out of my comfort zone can be,” says Alyssa Mirabella, a Business Administration student from Sudbury. “It is something that I will be proud of and talk about for the rest of my life.”

For Business student Kiara Schwartz, winning a medal is definitely a validation of her decision to come to Canada two years ago from South Africa to further her education.

“Cambrian College provided the location I wanted to live in, close to family, and Cambrian has a strong reputation as well as a great business program. My experience at Cambrian has been great. The support you get from the incredible professors and the whole Cambrian community is like no other.”

“Congratulations to the Team Cambrian students and their coaches for another medal-winning competition,” says Cambrian College President Bill Best. “Our students are rising to the occasion and letting all of Ontario know that Cambrian is emerging as one of the top colleges for business and marketing. Students from around the globe know they can come to Cambrian for a world-class education and experience. These medals prove that Cambrian is the place to be for students across Ontario, Canada and the world.”
