SUDBURY – The world today relies on computer systems and big data for everyday life. So it’s no surprise cybersecurity has become as vital as physical, emotional, and financial security.
In response to this growing need, Cambrian College is launching a new Cybersecurity Graduate Certificate program, starting in January of 2022.
In this two-semester program, students will learn how to protect computers, applications and networks from unauthorized and malicious users or software.
“The COVID-19 global pandemic has made it very clear how much we all rely on computers and digital technology, in our schools, workplaces, communities and homes,” says Dr. Paula Gouveia, Vice-President Academic at Cambrian College. “Now more than ever, the world needs highly skilled experts in cybersecurity.”
The program will cover key aspects of cybersecurity such as infrastructure configuration, information systems security, risk management and policy, and ethics and law.
Students will learn both the planning and operational side of identifying, analyzing and proposing solutions for computer security risks.
“At Cambrian, we’re constantly working with industry to identify the skills that are needed now and in the future, and this new program reflects that,” adds Jill Ferguson, Chair of the School of Information Technology. “Graduates of our Cybersecurity program will be using their skills to detect and eliminate threats in the exciting field of digital security.”
Graduates will be equipped to work as part of an IT support or security team to mitigate security risks and safeguard information in public or private sectors.
Cambrian College is a recognized Palo Alto Cybersecurity Academy with curriculum aligned to the National Initiative for Cybersecurity Education (NICE) framework.
The new Cybersecurity program is available to students in full-time and part-time options. For more information, including admission requirements, visit https://cambriancollege.ca/cybersecurity.
