Cambrian College Power Engineering Students Top National Testing Results

Apr 28, 2021

Cambrian College Power Engineering Technology students Matthew Aniol of Sudbury and Devon Montgomery of Sault Ste. Marie finished 1st and 3rd nationally in their respective Operating Engineer certification exams.

SUDBURY – Two of Cambrian College’s Power Engineering Technology students are among the best in Canada, according to national testing results.

Third-year student Matthew Aniol of Sudbury placed first nationwide in the Power Engineer 3rd Class test.

Second-year student Devon Montgomery of Sault Ste. Marie ranked third nationally in the Operating Engineer 4th Class test.

“We’re so proud of Matthew and Devon for this amazing accomplishment,” says Joanne MacLellan, Cambrian College’s Dean of the School of Engineering Technology. “These results speak to what outstanding students they are, but also to the expertise of our faculty and staff. Cambrian is a premier destination in Canada for Power Engineering and our students are proving that we are a school that competes with the very best in Canada.”

The tests were administered by PanGlobal, a publisher of learning materials for the power engineering industry. All learning materials are validated by third-party regulatory and industry certifying bodies. Individuals practicing in the Operating Engineer field in Ontario must complete a series of regulatory examinations, supported largely by the PanGlobal material, in addition to obtaining practical, hands-on training in order to obtain their certification.

“I am truly honoured to be a recipient of this award,” says Devon Montgomery.

“I plan to continue my studies next year at Cambrian College, and hopefully one day, obtain my first-class operating engineer’s license. I’d like to thank my colleagues and professors for supporting me through my time at Cambrian College.”

“The awards means that the hard work and studying paid off,” adds Matthew Aniol. “Although I don’t know what the future holds, I hope that it holds a great job and a rewarding career.”
