Indigenous Transition Program

Join us for a free 2-week academic and cultural program for Indigenous students transitioning to studies at Cambrian College.
Location: Cambrian College Barry Downe campus, Sudbury
Cost: Program – Free. Lunches are provided. Breakfast and dinner costs are the responsibility of the participant.
Accommodation – Free. You will stay in our residence on campus. If you are staying in residence during the academic year, you will also be able to check in to your room early at no cost.
Transportation: Any transportation required for program activities is free. Transportation to Sudbury is the responsibility of the participant.
Description
The Cambrian College Indigenous Transition Program (ITP) is a free, two-week program designed to support Indigenous students in preparing for and adapting to college life. It includes academic preparation, cultural teachings, and holistic support, covering topics like Moodle and myCambrian systems, learning strategies, community building, and incorporating cultural practices like the Medicine Wheel and ceremonies into college life. The program’s goal is to support positive cultural transitions and create a supportive environment, helping you to build confidence and a sense of belonging before the start of the academic year.
What the program offers
- Academic and technical skills: Familiarizes you with college systems like Moodle and myCambrian and provides workshops on academic skills and college success strategies.
- Cultural and spiritual connection: Offers teachings from Elders, storytelling, activities, and crafts, all while incorporating principles of the Medicine Wheel.
- Community building: Facilitates connections with other Indigenous students, faculty, and community members through campus tours, group activities, and social events.
- Holistic support: Provides emotional and spiritual supports to help manage the stress of college life and offers opportunities to release stress through ceremonies and on-land activities.
- Community integration: Includes visits to community agencies and allows for exploration of the Sudbury area.
