SUDBURY – It is going to be a capacity crowd this year at the largest career fair in northern Ontario.
Cambrian College’s annual Career Fair Conference is set for Tuesday, February 7th, at the main campus on BarryDowne Road.
The event is sold out. Approximately 250 industry representatives from 109 companies covering a wide variety of sectors will be in attendance, eager to hire this year’s graduating students, alumni and current students.
“The response this year from businesses has been unbelievable, and it sends a strong message to our students and graduates that employers are aggressively seeking to hire new employees,” says Renee Scott, Cambrian’s Director of Student Success and Recruitment. “Nothing beats a face-to-face atmosphere to connect employers with new talent. We have confidential and private job interview suites that can accommodate in-person and virtual interviews. We also have an employer lounge. This is a major event of our year, and we are making sure our students and employers have a great experience that will lead to successful hires.”
This year also marks the first full in-person Career Fair Conference in three years. A virtual component will also be offered, to allow employers and students who cannot attend in person to still have the opportunity to network.
"We are so excited to be attending the in-person Cambrian College Career Fair Conference,” says Cindy Fowler, Director of Corporate Development & Partner Relations at Plan A Powered by StaffStat. “Attending the conference has always given us a great opportunity to connect with exceptional and potential candidates within our community. It also gives students an opportunity to confidently deliver and share their skill set, experience and aspirations, while also giving them the chance to develop a network with professionals and explore options within their career paths."
In addition to employers, Cambrian’s Career Fair Conference is expected to attract 2,000 current students and alumni.
“Having attended the job fair for many years, Vianet has found this event crucial to our company’s success,” adds Brian Mccullagh, Vianet’s Director of Business Development - Development Solutions. “We have found and hired many Cambrian students to join our team as we are always on the lookout for young talent that want to start their career in the exciting telecommunications business. We look forward to taking part again this year.”
This year’s conference will include an employer pre-conference session featuring Alex Ross, Business Development Officer of Workforce at the City of Greater Sudbury. He will share information on local labour market challenges and unique solutions.
The welcome ceremony will also feature guest speaker Graham Sherman, owner of Tool Shed Brewing Company. He will explain why collaboration beats competition, and why adopting a collaborative approach, even with competitors, can be a healthier way to do business, and lead to exponential growth and a loyal customer base.
Again, this year, a highlight of the Career Fair Conference will be announcing the winner of this year’s Employer Award of Distinction. This award recognizes an employer which has demonstrated outstanding contributions to the college, its programs, students and graduates.
Cambrian’s Career Fair Conference will be held in the gymnasium, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Students are encouraged to bring polished resumes and their best pitches.
