SUDBURY – Exceptional times call for exceptional employees, and a few of those employees were honoured by Cambrian College.
Every year Cambrian hosts its annual Rendez-vous, an event which celebrates personal employee milestones, new retirees and outstanding service, through the President’s Awards for Excellence.
Rendez-vous was celebrated virtually this year due to the ongoing COVID pandemic. This year’s winners of the President’s Awards for Excellence were singled out for their hard work to deliver the best service despite the challenges and hurdles that came with the pandemic.
Administrator Category: Renee Scott
Since 2015, Renee has served as our Director of Student Success and Recruitment. In this capacity, Renee oversees our Career Centre, Dual Credit partnerships, and major College initiatives including Open House, Skills Ontario, and the Ontario College Information Fair. Under Renee’s leadership, the College Recruiting department has become early adopters and leaders in virtual recruitment activities, events, student and prospective student engagement. At a time when other colleges are struggling to maintain enrolment levels, Renee’s team has ensured Cambrian “owns its backyard” and grows its brand and reputation across the province, leading to stable domestic enrolment in very challenging times.
Support Staff category: Jessica Valiquette
In her capacity as the College’s Senior Buyer, Jessica played a pivotal role in the sourcing, organizing, tracking, and distribution of COVID-related personal protective equipment (PPE) for the Cambrian community, all while maintaining her day-to-day duties and responsibilities. Through her hard work and organizational skills, Jessica ensured that Cambrian College had the PPE it needed to resume on-campus labs and learning, and has enabled us to be prepared for all situations.
Outstanding Service by an Individual Award: Jessica Valiquette
In addition to excellence in the performance of her assigned duties, Jessica has provided exemplary service to the college and the community at large. Jessica is currently in her second term as the Support Staff representative on Cambrian’s Board of Governors. She established the Valiquette Family Music Performance Bursary, and on her birthday organizes a Student Food Bank Drive, as well as other events to raise money for Cambrian’s Student Food Bank.
Team Category: Housekeeping - Amanda McDonald, Jill Hammell, Autumn Stonier, Edgar Trias, Chanelle Basso
At the best of times, it is a daunting task to keep a campus of our size clean and safe. During a pandemic, the task is monumental. Our Housekeeping Team has proven to be up to the task. Cambrian College reopened and has stayed open during the pandemic due in large part to the efforts of Amanda, Jill, Autumn, Edgar and Chanelle. They have been working on the front lines every single day, constantly cleaning and sanitizing high-traffic and high-touch areas, making sure the campus is safe for staff and students.
