SUDBURY – One of Cambrian College’s employees has reached a national podium for excellence in leadership.
Courtney Rivard won bronze in the Colleges and Institutes Canada (CICan) 2021 annual Awards of Excellence, in the category of ‘Leadership Excellence Award for Non-Managerial Staff.’ Rivard is Cambrian’s Special Events and Administrative Assistant in the Student Success and Recruitment Office.
“I am incredibly honoured and humbled to have received this award from CiCan,” says Rivard. “I am thankful for all of the opportunities I have had at Cambrian College to develop professionally. The constant support from Cambrian provides me with the ability to innovate towards the next great thing and I am thankful to be part of a community that encourages me to do so.”
Rivard was recognized for her hard work, creativity, and leadership as she played a key role in assisting the college’s shift to online services and delivery of large-scale events.
These events include the annual Fall and Spring Open Houses, Orientation and Move-In Week, Skills Ontario, Jill of All Trades, and Cambrian’s participation at the annual Ontario College Information Fair. These are important annual events that are key to Cambrian’s success in outreach and recruitment and student retention.
“Courtney was a lifesaver this year,” says Renee Scott, Cambrian’s Director of Student Success and Recruitment. “Her hard work, ingenuity and natural leadership ensured we didn’t miss a beat when so many of these events had to move very quickly online into a virtual world. This was uncharted territory and she was a real leader. She made sure our prospective students still felt connected to us, even though we couldn’t meet them in-person on campus, due to COVID.”
Each of the events Courtney helped see through to success involved working with various departments, staff, and faculty – all at a safe distance and online to ensure they were presented in a seamless fashion.
“We are very proud of Courtney for this achievement,” says Bill Best, President of Cambrian College. “She goes above and beyond for our students, and she embodies that Cambrian drive and spirit. We have an amazing team here at Cambrian and it is why we are the destination for students and employees looking to be part of a great organization. I’m so proud Courtney’s work was recognized on a national stage.”
