SUDBURY – Cambrian College is pleased to announce that Canadian silver medalist para-athlete Keely Shaw will be this year’s guest speaker at the 2021 Student Innovation Challenge.
“Booking Keely as our guest speaker means the 2021 Student Innovation Challenge is going to be over the top,” says Mike Commito, Director of Cambrian R&D, the college’s Applied Research division. “This whole event is designed around motivation, overcoming challenges and finding success. Keely Shaw perfectly models these attributes and is the ideal person to share her story with our students.”
Keely is a Paralympic hopeful who found cycling after a fall from her horse in 2009, which resulted in paralysis of the left side of her body. She bought her first road bike in 2016 as a graduation present to herself after finishing her undergraduate degree at the University of Saskatchewan, and entered her first road race in the spring of 2017. Keely made a quick jump to the national team, earning multiple national and international medals, including a silver medal in 2019 at her first-ever World Para Cycling Track Championships.
The Cambrian College Student Innovation Challenge - Powered by RBC Future Launch, is an annual competition open exclusively to all Cambrian College students as an avenue for promoting innovation and entrepreneurialism on campus.
There are $6500 in cash prizes to be won.
This year’s event is being held virtually, April 29. Registrations are being accepted.
