Cambrian Graduation Ceremony Moves Online

Posted on Wednesday June 10, 2020

SUDBURY – It’s not a full convocation, but it is a celebration nonetheless.

Cambrian College is forgoing the gowns, caps and formalities and will instead be hosting an online graduation event this year.

The Virtual Celebration of our Graduates is being held Wednesday, June 17 at 11 a.m., and will be live-streamed on Cambrian’s Facebook page (www.Facebook.com/cambriancollege) and website (www.cambriancollege.ca/convocation).

“This has been a year like no other and all of us are going to miss that wonderful live, in-person convocation ceremony that is the highlight of our year,” says Cambrian College President Bill Best. “But with technology and some creativity, we’re going to make sure the Cambrian Class of 2020 still gets a great send-off.”

The Celebration of our Graduates will be interactive.

Graduating students are being asked to post photos to social media, showing how they are celebrating their graduation, using the hashtag #CambrianGrad2020. They can also send the photos to marketing@cambriancollege.ca for the chance to win one of five $100 Amazon gift cards. Photos will be featured during the celebration.

Cambrian faculty and employees are also being encouraged to share photos and messages of congratulations.

Some students and staff may want to host a Zoom session to watch the celebration with their classmates and teachers. Be sure to include marketing@cambriancollege.ca in the Zoom invite list for a chance to appear on the live-stream.

“We hope this year’s graduating class enjoys the virtual celebration we have planned, but we also know how much a formal convocation means to them,” adds Bill Best. “That is why the members of the graduating class of 2020 will be invited back to campus to attend our next available in-person convocation ceremony.”
