SUDBURY – It is 14 years and counting for graduates of Cambrian College’s Paramedic Program.
This year’s graduates of the Primary Care Paramedic Program achieved a 100 per cent pass rate on the provincial Advanced Emergency Medical Care Assistant exam.
Cambrian graduates have scored a perfect pass rate on the exam every year since 2005.
Cambrian College offers both a Primary Care Paramedic program and an Advanced Care Paramedic – Graduate Certificate program. Cambrian is the only college in Ontario to offer an Advanced Care Flight Paramedic program.
“Congratulations to this year’s graduating class. This is an amazing achievement and demonstrates the hard work and dedication of our students toward their profession,” says Derek McKinnon, Professor and Coordinator of Cambrian’s Paramedic Program. “I would also like to thank our incredible full-time faculty, Jason Lane and Brad Roney, who is the Coordinator of our Advance Care Paramedic Flight Program, our fantastic part-time faculty, and our great team of technicians and departmental staff for all the time and energy they invest in this program and in our students.”
One of those students is Samantha McLean. She graduated from the Primary Care Paramedic Program in 2017, and the flight paramedic program in 2018. McLean now works as a paramedic with the City of Greater Sudbury Paramedic Services.
“Cambrian has really experienced faculty and great facilities that prepared me for the real-life scenarios I face on the job. What I enjoy about being a paramedic is that you get to be there for patients and their families. For many, you offer that glimmer of light at a very dark time. It’s not always glamorous work, but it is very rewarding.”
“This is great news and what better time to learn this than just before the start of another school year,” adds Bill Best, President of Cambrian College. “We have amazing faculty and staff here at Cambrian. We’re producing the high-quality graduates employers want, and this is just another example of one of the many excellent things that’s getting Cambrian noticed around Ontario and outside the province.”
