Dale has been awarded various accolades during his over 25 years of service to the Golden Shield. Beausoleil led Cambrian to a hard fought 9-9 record, as the Golden Shield won their final five matches of the regular season to clinch a post-season berth.

3. Alanna LaHay named Ontario Campus Recreation Leadership Award Recipient
Cambrian Athletic Association President, Alanna LaHay, was honoured with the OCR Leadership Award at the OCAA AGM in May. The award honours students who have been heavily involved in leadership capacities within their campus recreation program. She is the first female recipient from Cambrian College.
4. Golden Shield Honored for 50 Years of Athletics at Sudbury Kinsmen Awards
After 50 Years of Golden Shield Athletics, Cambrian College was recognized for this milestone at the Sudbury Kinsmen Hall of Fame Banquet. Former Athletic Director, Bob Piche, was recognized with a Contribution to Sport award. Notable nominations included Tiffany Johnson for Amateur Female Athlete of the Year, Mary Strain for Import Athlete of the Year, and Dale Beausoleil for Coach of the Year
5. Golden Shield hosts Women’s Soccer Provincial Championship
For the first time in 9 years, and the first time in soccer program history, the Golden Shield hosted a provincial championship. The 2017 OCAA belairdirect Women’s Soccer Championships were held at the James Jerome Sports Complex.
6. Tiffany Johnson shatters OCAA Career Goals Scored record
It is no secret that Tiffany Johnson is a goal scoring machine. She shattered the previous OCAA Career Goals Scored record of 62, sending it soaring to 83 goals over her Golden Shield career.
7. Mary Strain and Emily Marcolini Medal at OCAA Championships
To qualify for Nationals, Mary Strain and Emily Marcolini respectively medaled Silver and Bronze at the OCAA Championships.
8. Tiffany Johnson Named OCAA and CCAA Women’s Soccer Player of the Year

In her final year of eligibility, Tiffany Johnson received the honor of OCAA Athlete of the Year on home turf at the OCAA belairdirect Women’s Soccer Championships after breaking various records in her career. Concluding her Golden Shield soccer career, Tiffany received the CCAA Women’s Soccer Player of the Year Award, and was named CCAA All-Canadian in the city where her varsity career began 4 years ago, in Halifax, Nova Scotia.
9. Giuseppe Politi is recognized as a Top 40 under 40 recipient
Head Coach for Women’s and Men’s Soccer, Giuseppe Politi received a Top 40 under 40 award from Northern Ontario Business.
10. Mary Strain and Emily Marcolini make Top Ten at nationals and are named CCAA All-Canadians
After qualifying for the National Championships with medal finishes at the OCAA Championships, Mary Strain and Emily Marcolini earned spots among the Canadian top ten finishers. Mary finished 7th and Emily finished 10th, and both were named CCAA All-Canadians.

The Golden Shield had an amazing year volunteering outside the varsity program to help others and raise awareness for important causes. Golden Shield athletes were heavily involved in Bell Let’s Talk Day, the Little Shield Kids Camp, Residence Move-In, Movember, and Community Days.
