A Learning Disabilities Awareness Month special event presented by the Learning Disabilities Association of Sudbury and Cambrian College.

In recognition of Learning Disabilities Awareness Month, student(s) in grades 7-12, and their supporters, are invited to a free, interactive event with Jennifer Casa-Todd. Jennifer Casa-Todd will bring her experience as a teacher, consultant, student, and parent, to equip attendees to think differently about the power of technology and social media to transform learning experiences. She is passionate about showing teachers and students how they can use technology and social media to make the world a better place. Cambrian’s Colleen Heidman will present “Pathways to Programs at Cambrian College". The event will also feature presentations on Dual Credit, the Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program (OYAP), and Cambrian’s Glenn Crombie Centre for Accessibility, Counselling, and Wellness. 

Jennifer Casa-Todd is a gifted speaker and workshop facilitator. She has been described as engaging, inspirational, knowledgeable, and passionate. She balances research, stories, and humour, with practical takeaways and hands-on opportunities for learning. She is currently a teacher-librarian in Aurora, Ontario Canada, and the author of the book, “Social LEADia”, published by Dave Burgess Consulting. Before this, she spent six years at the District level as a Program Resource Teacher for literacy and literacy consultant, respectively.    

In her district-level role, Jennifer Casa-Todd has had the honour of working with teachers from Kindergarten to grade twelve in practically every subject area to integrate technology in the classroom, support literacy, assessment, and differentiation, and promote twenty-first-century competencies. She has also had the privilege to write curriculum for the Ministry of Education of Ontario’s 21st Century Learning office as well as the Catholic Curriculum Corporation. She is a lifelong learner currently studying at the University of Ontario, Institute of Technology with a focus on social media in education and Digital Citizenship. She believes we need to think critically about issues of equity, access, privacy, and safety. 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Joining Jennifer Casa-Todd will be  Colleen Heidman. Colleen is a Digital Recruiter at Cambrian College. She is a Cambrian graduate, with an advanced diploma in Business Administration and Human Resources Management. If you consider yourself a techie, there may be more options at Cambrian to help you land a career in the technology field than you think! Colleen will walk the audience through Cambrian’s programs and discuss why college is great for techies. She will review Cambrian’s roster of technology programs, which includes Mobil Application Development, Cybersecurity, Electromechanical Engineering Technology – Mechatronics, and Graphic Design to name a few. 

 

 

Students are able to discover their abilities through different programs in high school. The Dual Credit program is a School/College/Work Initiative (SCWI) that is offered by Cambrian College in partnership with the Rainbow District School Board, Sudbury Catholic District School Board, and Kenjgewin Teg. Dual credit programs are programs approved by the Ministry of Education that allow students, while they are still in secondary school, to take college or apprenticeship course that counts towards both their Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) and a postsecondary certificate, diploma, degree, or a Certificate of Apprenticeship. The Ontario Youth Apprenticeship Program or OYAP is a high school program that allows students to try a huge variety of apprenticeship-based careers in skilled trades, starting in Grade 11 or Grade 12 through the Cooperative Education program. Dana Kinsella, Rainbow District School Board, and Dan Levecque, Sudbury Catholic District School Board, will talk about both of these amazing programs for secondary school students.
