Documentation: Page Templates

Page Templates are unique layouts that can be applied to different pages within the site. These templates are available exclusively to the Page post type. Other forms of content (such as programs, fields of study, events, news posts etc.) have their own unique templates.

All new pages will use the default content page template. This template has no unique configuration options, and is intended to present content in a simple, accessible format.

Additional templates are available from the Attributes box on the page editor screen. To apply a template to a page, select the template from the Templates drop down box, as shown here:

Selecting a page template

Note that the new template will not be saved until you either update the page (for published pages) or save the draft (for unpublished pages).

Reusable Templates

Reusable page templates are intended for use on pages with a specific purpose, such as landing pages or activity reports.

Modules Page Template

The Modules Page template is a highly flexible and customizable template that allows content creators to build pages by adding and populating a variety of different modules.

Landing Page Template

The Landing Page Template is fundamentally identical to the standard Modules Page template, except that the sub menu is not an option that can be turned on. Instead, it is intended for use on every landing page.

Activity Report Page Template

The Activity Report Page template functions in a very similar fashion to the Modules and Landing Page templates, in that these pages are built by adding modules. There are, however, some modules that are specific to this page template.

Tribute Page Template

The Tribute Page template is intended to be used for Tribute pages, under the Donations section of the website.

This template is almost identical to the default page template. The key difference is that it makes use of the Featured Image functionality, allowing content editors to include the featured image along with the text. This is useful in providing a strong, meaningful visual to accompany the tribute content.

Single-Page Templates

Single page templates are intended for use on unique pages, with very specific design requirements. As such, they generally have a very narrow focus, with functionality intended for a single purpose. They also tend to have their own set of custom options.

These templates should only be used on the pages for which they are intended.

Programs Landing Page Template

The Programs Landing Page Template is intended for the Programs Landing Page. Key features of this template include:

  • A large header image with several configurable links.
  • A grid of all the fields of studies, with expandable content listing all of the programs within each field of study.
  • Statistics that can be used to display some key metrics of the college.
  • A block outlining the range of program delivery options available through the college.
  • Key contact information.

Media Center Page Template

The Media Centre Page Template is intended for the site’s Media Centre Page. Key features of this template include:

  • A large header image with several configurable links.
  • A search box that allows users to search media releases.
  • A listing of media releases.
  • An option to define how many releases will be displayed before the load more button is rendered.

It is also important to note that the Media Release Category option must be set in the Posts › News Post Options settings page. This setting is used to determine the category from which to pull media releases.

Careers Page Template

The Careers Page Template is intended for the site’s careers page. Key features of this template include:

  • A large header image with several configurable links.
  • A listing of media releases.

ExpertFile Page Template

The ExpertFile Page Template is intended for displaying Cambrian College’s Expert file listing. Key features of this template include:

  • The ability to define the number of profiles that appear on each page of the listing.
  • The ability to define how the profiles are ordered (options include: Featured, Name, Last Updated).

Staff Directory Page Template

The Staff Directory Page Template is intended for displaying the staff directory. The data for the staff directory comes from a CSV uploaded to the server. This data will be saved in a cache for a pre-determined duration. Key features of this template include:

  • The ability to define the location of the CSV on the server.
  • The ability to define the duration of the cache (in minutes).
