Counselling services

Counselling services are provided through The Glenn Crombie Centre for Accessibility, Counselling and Wellness located at the main Barrydowne Campus. The counselling department provides short-term, episodic advisory and counselling support services to students through a confidential format using standardized tools, best practice approaches and defined pathways to collaborate with internal advisory support services and community partners. The team provides one-to-one academic, career and personal support services.

Whether you are a currently registered student or a prospective student, we are here to help.

Personal support advising or counselling

Throughout the school year, you may experience challenging personal circumstances that make it difficult to concentrate or focus on your academic studies. Personal support advising or counselling may assist you in coping strategies to deal with loneliness, death of a loved one, a relationship breakdown, stress or anxiety. If it is in the student’s best interests, our staff may also refer the student to professionals outside of the College for specialized services.

Personal support advising and counselling services are free-of-charge to all registered students.

Academic advising

If you are questioning your program selection or you are looking to maximize your performance while attending Cambrian College, academic advising may assist you to learn more about what is offered on and off campus and provide assistance to developing an educational plan to ensure you successfully achieve your goals.

Career advising

If you are planning a career or unsure about next steps in your education, career advising may assist you to select a program or guide you towards a career that is based on your individual interests. Using standardized tools such as the Career Occupation Preference System (COPS) and the STRONG Interest Inventory we can work with you to complete an appropriate assessment to discover your interests, preferences, and personal learning style. We can also assist you to better understand various industries of growth, potential salary earnings, and what pre-requisites are needed in each academic program that may assist in guiding your career selection.
