Cambrian Wellness Week

January 29 - February 2

Take part, wind down, be well!

During Wellness Week, we’ll be offering peaceful and free opportunities for everybody to have fun or even relax, but more importantly – learn more about wellness and mental health.

We have a combination of scheduled events and ongoing activities throughout the entire week and free slime balls brought to you by our Let’s Talk Science Team.

Transportation is also being arranged to ensure the entire Cambrian community from our Espanola and Little Current sites take part.

Strides for Wellness

Date: January 20 – February 2, 2018
Location: Cambrian College, Varsity Volleyball Game, Gymnasium

This is our first year for Strides for Wellness and we want you to get active and energized.  We’re challenging you to get moving and cross the entire country.

We’ll be placing maps of Canada in five locations across campus. Input your distance and track our progress at myCambrian.

We’ll be keeping everybody up to date and informed on Cambrian’s social media channels.

Passport to Wellness

Date: Passports will be available on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday of Wellness Week.

Pick up your passport, take part in a minimum of three events and then place your ballot in the drop-off boxes in the Glenn Crombie Centre, Career Centre and Library.

Alanna’s Story

Date: January 30

Join Alanna LaHay, our own FLBU Alumni and Cambrian Athletic Association President.  Alanna will be sharing her personal experience of losing a parent to suicide.  She will be sharing her story of hope, strength and resiliency. Counsellor Elisha Schmidt will be present to share available resources for staff and students.

Music Therapy Workshop

Music is a powerful tool to improve our mood and ability to communicate, and decrease anxiety and depression. Come join Kylie, a certified music therapist for 2 hours of music making, music listening, and discussion.

Bell Let’s Talk Day Keynote (FREE)

Indigenous Workshops/Activities

Medicine pouches

Date: February 2, 2018
Time: 9:30am – 10:30am
Location: Cambrian Indigenous Student Circle

A Medicine Pouch is a traditional vessel containing various items that its owner believes in its protection properties such as stones or a personal item(s) have special meaning. Some people put in the sacred medicines (sage, sweet grass, cedar, tobacco). The pouch can be worn on the neck or kept in a pocket.

The pouches are usually made from hide (from a moose, caribou, deer and/or cow. There are different patterns and sizes, and they can also be decorated with beads and fringes.

This session combines prayer, the eagle feather (a symbol of strength), and techniques such as body awareness and controlled breathing to promote relaxation and wellness.

Sanctuary for Your Senses – Aromatherapy Candlelight Yoga

Looking for a new way to chill out?  Come out to experience this trending new combination where we blend yoga postures with the benefits of Mother Nature’s essential oils.   This soulful beginner’s yoga practice will embrace your senses and leave you feeling relaxed, refreshed, and ready to take on a new semester with ease.    Everyone is welcome!  Comfortable clothing is recommended.
