How to Get In

Dynamic and Interactive Programs

Digital learning led by our professors

Wherever possible, you’ll complete theory-based courses in a faculty-led digital and online format from the comfort of your home. Your professors will be with you every step of the way, and you’ll have lots of opportunities to interact with your classmates from across Canada and around the world.

Hands-on experience

Where required, you will take part in safely structured hands-on learning in our labs to apply your knowledge to real-world situations. Depending on your program, you may also complete a capstone project (a major project that allows students to demonstrate their learning), placement, or co-op that will give you the chance to grow your skills in a workplace setting. We will adapt these experiences and work with our community partners as needed to give you valuable and safe practical learning opportunities.

Technology Requirements

You will require regular access to a computer with a reliable internet connection, web camera, and a headset. Program-specific requirements can be viewed in the “Plan Your Future” section on program web pages. Find your program here.

Bring Your Own Device (BYOD)

Cambrian College has implemented a BYOD policy to ensure a rich and flexible learning experience. Learn more about BYOD by clicking here.

Program Delivery Methods – Fall 2020

As you prepare to start classes in the fall, please see your program in the list below to find out whether you will be learning from home exclusively or if you will be learning from home and taking part in on-campus learning experiences in our labs.

When learning from home, your courses will be delivered using one of the four following digital learning formats:

Definition You’ll See in Your Course Outline

Course is delivered through asynchronous** teaching.

What This Means

Your professor will share learning resources and activities with you and your classmates in various ways (typically in your Moodle course shell). Your professor will provide regular opportunities for you to ask questions and request clarification. You, your classmates, and your professor are not necessarily using the learning tools at the same time.

Definition You’ll See in Your Course Outline

Course combines scheduled synchronous* and unscheduled asynchronous** teaching.

What This Means

Often referred to as blended learning, hybrid courses include both real-time learning with your professor and classmates and online learning activities.

Definition You’ll See in Your Course Outline

Course includes both synchronous* and asynchronous** learning and you can move between both components seamlessly.

What This Means

A form of hybrid learning that gives you the option of joining classes in real-time, or learning asynchronously or doing both. Students can change their mode of learning weekly or by topic, according to need or preference.

Definition You’ll See in Your Course Outline

Course is delivered through scheduled synchronous teaching that may be face-to-face and/or virtual.

What This Means

Your course runs on a specific date and time, and your professor engages with you and your classmates live and in real-time.

Theory-based courses will be delivered virtually and you will not be required to come on campus. On your timetable, these will be indicated with the room number VIRT. In the case of labs, you will be on campus and in the room specified on your timetable.

* Synchronous Teaching and Learning: A faculty member (your professor) is engaged with you and your classmates teaching and learning at the same time, i.e. in real time. Your courses are scheduled for a pre determined day and time.

** Asynchronous Teaching and Learning: Your professor shares learning resources and activities with you and your classmates in a flexible way (typically in your Moodle course shell). Your professor confirms the regular times and channels for you to ask questions and request clarification. You, your classmates, and your professor are not necessarily using the Moodle shell or other tools at exactly the same time.

If you have any questions, please connect with us at or (705) 566-8101, extension 7303.
