design, earning top awards through the RGD Student Awards competition.
Neli Nenkova’s winning work was selected by judges from the Association of Registered Graphic Designers (RGD) and was featured at the annual DesignThinkers conference held in Toronto in November 2016.
Nenkova was recognized with the 50 Carleton Award for Logo Design. In that category, her submission was a redesigned logo for Bulgaria. She also received the Studio 123 Award for Northern Ontario for her TXT L8R campaign to stop texting and driving.
In Sudbury, Nenkova’s public art is seen by thousands of people every day. She was a featured muralist in the 2016 Up Here Festival, and her large-scale mural brightens up the busy commute on the Kingsway just east of downtown. The holder of a Bachelor’s Degree in Fine Arts and Fashion Design, Nenkova is an accomplished visual artist. Her paintings are in public and private collections in France, Bulgaria, Italy, Germany, Greece, USA, Japan, Turkey, The Vatican and Canada. She is currently a graphic designer at Colourphill Design Inc.
“Students in Cambrian College’s Graphic Design program have won multiple RGD awards every year since 2004,” said Ron Beltrame, coordinator of the Graphic Design program. “This is an achievement that is unique to Cambrian in comparison to our counterparts in North Bay, Sault Ste. Marie, and Barrie. We’re happy to see Neli continue this tradition of success, and wish her all the best now that she has joined the ranks of our Graphic Design alumni.”
