SUDBURY – Cambrian College is pleased to announce that it is now a provider of an internationally-recognized welding training, assessment and credentialing program through CWB Group, Canada’s only national welding oversight body.
The CWBi Acorn program, delivered through Cambrian’s Corporate Training division, will enable companies and individuals to have their welding and fabrication skills independently measured through accredited training, testing, and assessments that will take place online and in the College’s labs and workshops. Acorn training provides critical learning at all levels within the trade, along with assessments and detailed reports that measure a welder or fabricator’s skills against the national benchmark set by the CWB.
“It’s a pleasure to have Cambrian College be the first to offer Acorn, CWBi’s national end-to-end welder training and skills assessment program,” said Doug Luciani, President and CEO of the CWB Group. “Our team of world class developers worked tirelessly to create the curriculum. We listened to industry’s needs to develop a national training program that will bring a uniform approach to welding education across the country, for the greater good of the Canadian welding and fabrication industry.”
“Welders must recertify every two years to stay up to date, and this program provides individuals and employees with the opportunity to maintain their skills through ongoing assessment and training,” said Louise Turcotte, Dean of Cambrian’s School of Skills Training. “Cambrian is pleased to be the first postsecondary school in Canada to deliver this program, and we are looking forward to serving the needs of individuals and employers who will benefit from it.”
As one of Sudbury’s major employers of skilled tradespeople, including certified welders and fabricators, Vale is pleased to be able to take advantage of the CWBi Acorn program offered through Cambrian. “Vale employees will benefit from the CWB curriculum combined with Cambrian’s training expertise,” said Garwin Pitman, Superintendent of Maintenance and Training at Vale’s Sudbury operation. “Vale recognizes the value of offering up-to-date training for our skilled tradespeople. This high-quality program will help to ensure that our tradespeople are equipped with the knowledge and skills to do the best possible work.”
