Rigging and Hoisting

Learn to plan lifts, perform calculations using load charts, select and use correct rigging/hoisting equipment, inspect and maintain rigging/hoisting equipment, control, balance, and move loads as required and disassemble all equipment safely.

Days: Saturday and Sunday, 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Starts: February 4 for four weekends

 

Introduction to Financial Accounting

You’ll be introduced to the fundamental accounting principles of debit and credit and to the double entry system of bookkeeping. You’ll also examine the use of control accounts and the opening and closing of a set of books along with the preparation of financial statements.

Days: Saturday and Sunday, 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.

Financial Accounting II

You’ll examine, in more depth, selected assets and liabilities found on the balance sheet, and you’ll also learn how to account for transactions involving partnerships and corporations. Assets examined include merchandise inventories, accounts receivable, notes receivable, plant, property, and equipment. Liabilities studied will include short term bonds payable, warranty liabilities, income tax liabilities, and payroll liabilities.

Welding I

Develop an understanding of the proper operation and theory associated with shielded metal arc welding equipment, proper use of protective equipment and learn to demonstrate the skills required to perform welding and fabrication operations to industry standards.

Introduction to Interior Design

Learn the basic principles and elements of design, the importance of room decor and the major categories of style types. Discover career options in the field of design, the components of a professional portfolio, and how to do a client needs assessments. Learn more about floor plans, window treatments, lighting, colour schemes and styles, and implement these concepts in a colour board presentation (which will become your first portfolio piece) at the end of your course.

Small Engine Repair

Learn about shop safety, four stroke and two stroke operation and construction, fuel delivery systems, spark ignition systems, and basic troubleshooting. Looking at various engines such as chainsaws, snowmobiles, motorcycles, lawnmowers, outboard motors, and weed trimmers, you’ll learn to diagnose, repair, and maintain your gas-powered lawn care equipment along with how engines, carburetors, and ignition systems work. You’ll also have the opportunity to bring your gas-powered equipment to class and repair it and/or winterize the equipment under the supervision of an expert instructor.

NOTE: You must bring in their own small gas engine(s) for the lab work on Sunday. CSA-approved safety boots and safety glasses will be required for admittance to all lab classes.
